Health benefits and risks of almonds
Almonds can be eaten raw, roasted or added to sweet or savory dishes. They are also available chopped, chopped, as flour, oil, butter or almond milk.
In this article, you will learn some reasons why almonds are the right choice for our health.
Positive effect on cholesterol
Eating almonds can lower total cholesterol.
Almonds are high in unsaturated fats. This type of fat reduces the occurrence of “bad” cholesterol and thereby improves blood cholesterol levels. Studies indicate that eating almonds can also increase the occurrence of vitamin E and red blood cells, which prevent blood vessels from clogging and lower cholesterol levels.
They reduce the risk of cancer
Studies have identified a two to three times lower risk of breast cancer in individuals who consumed higher amounts of peanuts, walnuts and almonds compared to those who did not. The researchers concluded that peanuts, walnuts and almonds appear to be a protective factor for the development of breast cancer.
Prevention of heart disease
Almonds, along with other nuts, can help improve blood fat levels. This can benefit heart health. In their studies, scientists found that almonds significantly increased the level of antioxidants in the bloodstream, lowered blood pressure and improved blood flow.
Almonds and vitamin E
Almonds contain relatively high levels of vitamin E. Vitamin E helps prevent cell damage caused by external environmental influences that our body can no longer cope with. This can lead to various diseases and health problems. Researchers have also tentatively linked a higher intake of vitamin E to a lower risk of Alzheimer’s disease.
Blood sugar control
There are some studies that show almonds can help manage blood sugar. Researchers have suggested that there may be a link between magnesium deficiency and insulin resistance. This has proven to be a breakthrough idea for those suffering from type 2 diabetes, as they are mostly magnesium deficient. By consuming almonds daily, their blood count and blood fat levels improved.
Diet helpers
Almonds are low in carbohydrates but high in protein, healthy fats and fiber. They give us a feeling of fullness, which can help some individuals lose weight.
They strengthen bone health
Almonds contain calcium, magnesium, manganese, copper, vitamin K, protein and zinc, all of which contribute to bone health.
Risks
There are potential risks that health experts associate with eating almonds.
Allergy
People with nut allergies should avoid almonds. If a person develops hives, swelling and difficulty breathing after eating almonds, they should seek medical attention immediately. A condition known as anaphylaxis can develop quickly and be life-threatening.
