Health benefits of carrots

Carrots contain vitamin A, and vitamin A deficiency can cause xerophthalmia, a progressive eye disease. Xerophthalmia can cause night blindness or vision problems.

The antioxidant effects of carotenoids—the yellow, orange, and red organic pigments found in carrots and other vegetables—may reduce the risk of free radicals.

Lutein and zeaxanthin are two examples of these carotenoids that carrots contain. Vitamin A and beta carotene may also be beneficial.

Diabetes control
Both cooked and raw carrots have a low glycemic index. This means they are unlikely to cause a spike in blood sugar, which can help people with diabetes.

Eating a high-fiber diet can also help prevent the development of type 2 diabetes.

Immune function

The antioxidant that carrots provide is vitamin C. It is an integral part of the immune system.

Eating a balanced diet that provides enough vitamin C can help support the body’s ability to fight disease and infection and maintain overall good health.

The vitamin C in carrots also contributes to collagen production. Collagen is a key component of connective tissue and is essential for wound healing and maintaining a healthy body.
