Where are crab sticks actually from?
Surimi crab sticks are originally from Japan . They are most often used to prepare spreads and salads. They are also often used in sushi.
It is ground meat of marine fish and crabs . This ground meat is then pressed into typical looking surimi “fries” with a reddish surface.
These crab sticks were created to keep the crab meat fresh and easy to use for a long time, which is normally a problem. The name surimi means “ground fish” in Japanese, and the technique of making these sticks was created more than 800 years ago.
And what is interesting? On the Japanese island of Hokkaido, there is a famous crab ice cream, which, although it tastes like crab, is sweet at the same time. Would you like to try it?
