  1. Preheat the oven to 160 degrees
  2. Mix the cream with vanilla extract and salt in a saucepan
  3. We slowly start to cook everything at a low temperature
  4. Cook until the mixture boils and is hot
  5. Turn off the heat and let the mixture stand in the pot for a few minutes
  6. Meanwhile, in a bowl, beat the egg yolks with the sugar into a light cream

What is creme brulee and where did it come from?

Crème brûlée can be translated as burnt cream, the dominant ingredient of which is cream and a cream pudding made from it with a rich layer of caramelized sugar.

This dessert is most often served slightly chilled so that its top is tender, crunchy and warm while its center is soft, creamy and cool.

Its cream base is most often flavored with vanilla extract, but in modern cuisine this is no longer the rule and various other flavorings are also used.

Most might think that crème brûlée is a product of French cuisine only – and quite well, as the name itself means “burnt cream” in the language! But as it turns out, France is just one of several European countries vying for the chance to say they came up with this famous dessert.

First, let’s talk about France. With such a respected culinary history, it makes sense that something as delicious as crème brûlée could come from here—and maybe it did.

The country’s proponents of crème brûlée say it was first introduced in a 1691 cookbook by a renowned chef. This recipe eventually impressed all the French nobility, including King Louis XIV, and spread throughout Europe.

So if crème brûlée was first formally introduced by the French over 300 years ago, why are there still questions and doubts about its first location?

The problem lies in the pudding. Custard, which is found in a sweet crème brûlée crust. Although the crèmes that enjoyed great popularity and popularity in the Middle Ages were not quite the same as the modern crème brûlée, we can still see the beginning of the dispute and how several countries could independently create a quite similar dish and call it their own.
