Ingredients:

Filling:

  • 600 g of apples
  • 2 tablespoons of cane sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of cinnamon

Glaze:

  • 180 g semi-coarse flour
  • 125 g granulated sugar
  • 125 g of fresh butter
  • For serving:
  • 1 cup cooked pudding
  • 1 scoop of vanilla ice cream

Method:

  • Peel the apples, cut them in half, remove the core and cut them into pieces (slices, cubes). They should not be in too small pieces, otherwise they will fall apart and boil.

  • Transfer them to a baking dish/baking pan and spread them over the entire surface.
  • Mix flour, sugar and butter in a bowl and use your fingers to make a crumb.
  • We work the butter into the flour and sugar to create a rough mixture, which we pour into the baking dish for the apples.
  • Spread evenly so that the fruit is completely covered.
  • Preheat the oven to 180 degrees and then insert a baking dish. Bake for about 30 minutes.
  • When the surface is golden, remove from the oven and let rest for 5 minutes.
  • Then we can serve it with pudding and vanilla ice cream.

What exactly is a crumble?

Crumble is a very popular and extremely simple dessert that has its origins in the British Isles. It consists of fruit and crumb. It is interesting that this type of pastry was created during the Second World War.

It was actually an alternative to the classic crumb cake, as flour and butter were in short supply and at the time only issued for rationing. A baking dish is typical for preparation, which does not mean that it is not possible to use a mold or even a baking pan.

What fruit is used?

  • Plums
  • Apples
  • Blackberries
  • Cranberries
  • Apricots
  • Pears
  • Blackberries
  • Blueberries
  • Peaches
  • Raspberries
  • Currant
  • Rhubarb

If you don’t want to waste a lot of time preparing an ordinary crumb cake, you can choose this delicacy. It’s kind of the same thing, you just don’t need to fork over the dough. The advantage is that, in addition to the classic crumb, you can also prepare a version with oatmeal, almonds, nuts, sunflower seeds, etc.
