Fit delicious salad with homemade bread
A healthier version of this retro salad is here! Enjoy the combination of yogurt and sour cream on a slice of homemade bread. We guarantee that you will not eat it otherwise!
What will we need
- 500 g soft salami (ham)
- 8 pickles
- 75 g canned (or frozen) peas
- Red onion
- 250 g of white yogurt
- 200 g of sour cream
- 5 spoons of mustard
- Pinch of salt
- A pinch of pepper
For bread
- 420 g plain flour
- 2 teaspoons of powdered yeast
- 2 teaspoons of salt
- 360 ml of cold water
Method
- For this delicious salad recipe, we will start by preparing homemade bread
- Mix flour with yeast and salt in a large bowl
- Pour cold water over the mixture and mix lightly
- We work in all the flour so that it is all mixed with the water
- The dough will be sticky
- We make a bun from the elaborate dough in a bowl, which we cover with cling film
- Let the dough rise in a warm place for 2-3 hours (for a better result, see TIP)
- Lightly dust a large baking sheet with flour
- Turn the dough out onto a floured work surface and divide it in half
- We process these and shape them either into loaves of bread or long baguette cones
- Place the shaped dough on a floured baking sheet and cover with a tea towel
- Let them rest like this for another 45 minutes
- During this time, we will preheat the oven to 220 degrees and start preparing our healthy version of the salad
- Cut the soft ham salami and pickles into small cubes
- Cut the onion into small cubes and scald with boiling water
- If we are using frozen peas, add them to the onions and let them cook together with the onions for 30 seconds
- Then drain the peas and onions and add them to the salami and cucumbers
- Mix and add mustard
- Gradually stir in the yogurt and sour cream
- Mix everything together and taste
- Salt and pepper as needed, feel free to add a little more mustard
- Transfer the salad to a serving bowl and leave to rest in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour
- Lightly cut the risen loaves with a knife before baking
- Then place the loaves in the preheated oven on the middle rack
- Bake it for 20-25 minutes until the crust starts to turn golden
- You can tell when the bread is baked by the hollow sound it makes when you tap it
- Take the bread out of the oven and let it rest and cool for at least 5 minutes before slicing
- The final product is served with homemade bread
We can immediately proceed with step number 8, but for the best taste and texture of the bread, we recommend that you let the leavened dough rest in the refrigerator for at least 12 hours and up to 2 days. I usually let the dough rest in the fridge for about 18 hours and only then continue with step number 8.
