Grilled tuna steaks
Try our detailed guide on how to properly grill tuna. Plus, apart from the tuna, you only need oil and salt for this!
INGREDIENTS
- 4 tuna steaks, each weighing 170 to 225 g and 3 to 5 cm thick
- rapeseed or other neutral oil
- salt to taste
- ground black pepper (optional)
METHOD
- Set all gas grill burners to high temperature.
- Put the grill grate in place, cover the grill and let it preheat for 5 minutes.
- Clean and oil the grill grate.
- Dry the tuna steaks well with paper towels and lightly coat them with oil.
- Just before grilling, season the steaks with salt and possibly pepper.
- Then place on the hot side of the grill.
- Grill the tuna until the first side is well browned, 1 to 2 minutes.
- If the fish sticks, try gently lifting it from the bottom using a thin metal spatula or the prongs of a fork pushed down between the grill grates.
- We turn the tuna and repeat on the other side.
- For ideal rare doneness, grill the fish long enough to brown on all sides, and not longer.
- If we want to have the tuna beautifully rare, the sides of the steaks should be purple, with the beige color starting to appear from above and below.
- If we want them to be done a little more, we wait until more beige color appears from both sides.
- We do not recommend grilling tuna steaks beyond medium-rare.
- Enjoy it!

A few final tips on grilling fish
- Place slices of butter on the finished fish and take the taste experience to a higher level.
- The fish does not need to be marinated for a long time. Fish seasoned only with pepper and salt also taste great.
- Potatoes and some suitable dip are suitable side dishes for grilled fish.
- Among the most suitable fish for grilling are those with a higher fat content . This is, for example, mackerel, tuna or trout, but many other fish are suitable.
- We choose the meat as fresh as possible. However, quality fish can also be purchased deep frozen. In this case, we check the water content in the package.
