Why marinate meat?
The essence of marinating is that it makes the meat softer and juicier. Thanks to the acidic environment to which meat is exposed during marinating, the bonds between proteins break down. Most often, meat is marinated in oil with various spices or herbs, lemon juice or various types of vinegar are also often used.
Why marinate in honey?
Honey gives the meat an unusual and at the same time delicate taste, it depends on what other ingredients you use it with. Most often, honey marinade is used for chicken or duck meat. But you can also use it for other types of meat. It is best to use fresh liquid honey for marinating.
If your honey has crystallized, just heat it slightly and it will become liquid again. Natural honey is very healthy, it contains, for example, vitamins C and B6 and minerals such as calcium, potassium, phosphorus, zinc and iron.
How long to marinate the meat?
The recommended marinating time of course depends on the type of meat. While chicken or turkey meat needs to be marinated at room temperature for at least half an hour, then in the refrigerator for one to two hours, it is better to leave pork or beef in the marinade all night.
In addition, it is recommended to cut the larger pieces of meat lightly so that the marinade penetrates better, and to turn or mix the meat occasionally during the marinating process.
Why not tap the meat before marinating?
Many people make the mistake of patting the meat before marinating. But that’s a mistake. The marinade does not hold in battered meat and the meat is then unnecessarily dry. If necessary, try to push thicker meat only slightly with your palm.
Bowl or bag?
While in the past meat was marinated primarily in a bowl, many people nowadays prefer a resealable bag for practical reasons. Its advantage is that the aroma of the marinade will not be released into the refrigerator, and at the same time the meat will not attract other odors from the refrigerator. In addition, the work of washing dishes is also eliminated. You can marinate well both in a bowl and in a bag, it depends on your preferences.
