Mashed potatoes with onions
The most common and fastest way to prepare mashed potatoes is to peel them and boil them. We get a healthy side dish that can be flavored in a variety of ways.
Ingredients
- 200 g of raw or boiled potatoes
- 1 teaspoon lard
- ¼ white onion
- salt
- 15 ml of milk
- chives, parsley for decoration
Method
- You can have potatoes just cooked, but you can also use leftovers from the previous day.
- Mash them to a coarser texture (they will fall apart a little more during heating).
- Fry the finely chopped onion in lard until translucent (we recommend a stainless steel or enamel pot).
- Then add the potatoes and fry until they start to stick to the bottom of the pot.
- Now add the milk, the potatoes will release from the bottom and it’s done.
- Season the potatoes, garnish with chives, parsley or another green herb.

Mashed potatoes with bacon

Ingredients
- 400 g of potatoes
- 120 g of bacon
- 1 medium white onion
- 1 tablespoon lard
- 2 tablespoons of milk
- salt
- pepper
- chopped chives
Method
- Boil the potatoes in the classic way, then drain.
- Finely chop the onion and let it foam in lard.
- Then add chopped bacon and fry until crispy.
- For now, we mash the potatoes.
- Add them to the bacon and onion mixture.
- Keep frying and stirring until they start to stick,
- Add milk, and when the potatoes loosen from the bottom, we’re done.
- Season, add chopped chives and serve.

You can also prepare mashed potatoes with the aroma of garlic.
Ingredients
- 400 g of potatoes
- 3 cloves of garlic (to taste)
- 35 g of butter
- 50 ml of milk
- salt
- pepper

Method
- Boil the potatoes in salted water.

- Fry the chopped garlic in oil.
- Add the potatoes and fry, stirring occasionally.

You can prepare these mashed potatoes with a slightly more sour taste. They are delicious and full of vitamins thanks to the cabbage. Also suitable for people with lactose intolerance.
Ingredients
- 500g of potatoes
- 60 ml of soy milk
- Sauerkraut (amount to taste)
- Onion
- Coconut oil
- Salt, cumin
- Fresh parsley for sprinkling
Method
- Peel the potatoes, wash them and boil them in salted water with cumin until soft, about half an hour.
- Meanwhile, fry the chopped onion in coconut oil.
- Drain the boiled potatoes, add fried onions and soy milk to them.
- You then mash the potatoes and finally add the sauerkraut.
- Mix well and add salt to taste.
- Serve sprinkled with parsley as a side dish, for example, with meat.

Mashed potatoes with leek and buttermilk
If you’re tired of potatoes alone, try these mashed potatoes with leeks and butter. They will be a little more colorful and nutritious.
Ingredients
- 500g of potatoes
- 1 piece of leek
- 50g butter (amount to taste)
- 50 ml of milk
- 1 onion
- Olive oil
- Salt
Method
- Peel and cut the potatoes. Then boil in salted water until soft.
- Meanwhile, fry the onion in olive oil.
- Wash and finely chop the leek.
- Drain the boiled potatoes and mash with a masher.
- Mix with fried onion and chopped leek.
- Finally, stir the butter into the potatoes and serve.

What goes with mashed potatoes?
Mashed potatoes can be served with all baked, roasted and fried meat dishes. It also goes well with meat dishes stewed with natural juices, without thickened sauce. It is also suitable for meatless dishes, prepared from vegetables, cheese or mushrooms.
Mashed potatoes were once served with simple water soups , such as garlic soup, or served as a separate main course with a little fried bacon and vegetables. It is up to us how we will use them today and what we will serve them for.
