  • 2 cups of oatmeal
  • 3 and ¼ cups of water
  • 2 medium bananas

To add flavor:

  • peanut butter, nuts, fresh or dried fruit, chocolate, cocoa, cinnamon, maple syrup (your choice)


  • Mash the bananas, add them to a pot of water and mix.
  • Add the flakes and bring to a boil.
  • Cook for about 10 minutes.

Oatmeal in the microwave

Let’s see how to prepare flaky porridge in the microwave. Nowadays, it is probably not missing in any household. And in addition, preparation in this oven provides the fastest way.


  • 1 cup oatmeal
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1 cup of water
  • pinch of salt


  • Put all the ingredients in a container suitable for the microwave (but at the same time the container should be larger than the contents in case of boiling).
  • Mix everything well and let it heat for 4 to 5 minutes.
  • Stir the mash halfway through heating.
  • Serve the porridge with milk.

Salted oatmeal with mushrooms

For salty gourmets, we also have this salty variant of flake porridge. It is simple and also a quick dish that fills you up. For complete perfection, you can serve it with a poached egg, drizzled with soy sauce and garnished with chopped spring onions.


For the flakes:

  • 1 teaspoon of olive oil
  • ¼ teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1 cup of fine rolled oats
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cups of water

For the mushrooms:

  • 1 tablespoon of oil
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • pinch of salt

On completion (any):

  • egg, a piece of spring onion, soy sauce


Preparation of porridge:

  • Heat a teaspoon of oil in a saucepan, fry the ginger and add the flakes. Saute them for a while, add salt and pepper, and then cover them with water.
  • Bring to a boil and cook for about 3-4 minutes until the flakes soften (add water if necessary).

Preparation of mushrooms:

  • Fry the mushrooms in hot oil until golden.
  • Sprinkle with a pinch of salt.
  • Mix the mash and mushrooms and it’s done.
  • You can add poached eggs, spring onions and soy sauce.

Flakes on salt with egg and cheese

Here’s another tip for savory oatmeal. If you are not satisfied with sweet porridge, definitely give it a try. This variant of the recipe may pleasantly surprise you.

Ingredients for two servings:

For porridge:

  • 1 teaspoon of oil
  • 2-3 cloves of garlic
  • 1 cup of fine oatmeal
  • 2 cups of water
  • ¼ cup grated cheddar
  • 2 teaspoons chopped basil

For the eggs:

  • 1 teaspoon of olive oil
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • salt and pepper


Preparation of porridge:

  • Heat the oil, fry the pressed garlic in it and after 15 seconds add the flakes.
  • Sauté the flakes for a few seconds, then cover them with water, salt and pepper.
  • Bring the porridge to a boil and let it bubble for about 3-4 minutes.
  • Alternatively, top up with water if needed.
  • Before the end, add the cheese, basil and mix.

Preparation of eggs:

  • Heat oil in a pan and make 2 ox eyes on it.
  • Sprinkle them with salt, paprika and pepper.
  • Serve them together with flaky porridge, feel free to cut the eggs into smaller pieces and mix.
