Savory cake made from toasted bread

Salted cakes have their own special charm. In addition, when they are prepared from favorite ingredients, they taste twice as good. After all, toasted bread is always a guarantee for an excellent dish. Baked toasts are great, for example.

Ingredients:

  • 2 packages of toasted bread (it can be light or dark, it depends on what we prefer)
  • 700 g of cream cheese
  • 800 ml sour cream (preferably 20%)
  • 100 g of mayonnaise
  • 4 hard-boiled eggs
  • 300 g of grated pork ham
  • 8 pickled/sterilized cucumbers
  • 150 – 200 g grated cheese (e.g. gouda)
  • 1 red pepper
  • 1 pack of olives
  • Lettuce for garnish (ice cream, LolloBiondo, etc.)

Method:

  • In total, we will need 32 slices of bread, which we will divide into 4 layers, 3 rows and 8 pieces for each layer.
  • Spread 4 x 2 slices of bread on the cutting board as a base.
  • Mix cream cheese, mayonnaise and sour cream on the spot.
  • Spread the first layer on the bread, but so that the entire surface is covered with the mixture, but not a very high layer.
  • Grate the boiled eggs and cover them with a layer of cream and cheese.
  • One by one, grease another 8 slices with the mixture and place the greased side on a layer of eggs.
  • We must always lay close to each other so that there is no gap.
  • As soon as we have finished gluing the last bread, we smear the entire surface with the cheese mixture again.
  • Grate pickled cucumbers on this layer and spread over the entire surface.
  • As before, spread one bread at a time and then place the other side on the cucumbers.
  • Spread all the bread again and cover with grated ham and chopped olives.

No-bake Swedish sandwich loaf

This recipe is especially popular in Sweden, but that doesn’t mean you can’t fall in love with it too. If you love shrimp and salmon, then you will love this delicacy.

Ingredients:

  • 6 slices of white toasted bread
  • 200 ml of shrimp salad
  • 200 g of smoked salmon
  • 1 package of fresh shrimp (best quality possible)
  • 1 salad cucumber
  • A few sprigs of dill for garnish
  • Bunch of fresh chives
  • 1 glass of mayonnaise
  • 3 hard-boiled eggs
  • Fresh butter

Method:

  • We start by cutting the crusts off the toasted bread.
  • Prepare the first two slices of bread and spread butter on the bottom side.
  • We place it on a cutting board and cover the top with shrimp cocktail in such an amount that it will last.
  • Place two slices of bread on it, which this time we will spread butter on the upper side.
  • Mash the eggs hard in a bowl, add mayonnaise, salt, pepper and mix.
  • Spread this mixture on buttered bread.
  • Smooth and cover with the last pair of buttered bread from the bottom side.
  • Using a spatula or kitchen spatula, spread a thin layer of mayonnaise on the sides and top of the cake so that it is all over the cake.
  • This will ensure that it holds together.
  • Spread the salmon slices over the surface so that we get a nice pattern, all you have to do is use your imagination.

  • 1 sprig of fresh rosemary
  • 50 g granulated sugar

Method:

  • First, preheat the oven to 180 degrees.
  • Line the cake pan with baking paper and brush the bottom of the paper with a little olive oil.
  • Put the polenta in the bowl of a food processor and turn it on for a few seconds on the highest setting.
  • Add sugar, rosemary, lemon and orange peel to the blended polenta and mix again using a food processor.
  • Add the oil with the eggs and mix several times with the pulse button.
  • Finally, mix in ground almonds, salt, baking powder and make a smooth dough.
  • Transfer to the prepared cake tin and place in the preheated oven.
  • Bake for 45 minutes, using a toothpick to check if the dough is cooked enough. It should have a golden hue.
  • When it’s done, take the cake out of the oven and let it rest for 15 minutes.
  • Then put all the ingredients for the glaze in a small pan and bring to a boil over low heat to dissolve the sugar.
  • Set aside and make small holes on the cake with a wooden spoon and spread half of the frosting on the surface.
  • It may happen that the middle part of the cake sinks a little, but this is normal.
  • Leave to cool, remove from the mold and remove the baking paper.
  • Spread the remaining glaze and decorate with a piece of rosemary sprig.
  • Finally, sprinkle some coarse sea salt.

The crust is beautifully smooth, but quite hard. When it comes to use, it can be found mostly in appetizers and pasta, but it is also great for steaks and vegetable salads. A big advantage of this cheese is the fact that it can be stored in the freezer without any problems.

Feta cheese

One of the oldest Greek cheeses, the taste of which could be tasted by many inhabitants of antiquity. It is an important ingredient in Mediterranean cuisine. In Europe, it has gradually built its strong place and now it is enjoyed by almost every European.

Feta is not made from cow’s milk, but from sheep’s and goat’s milk. The original cheese always contained at least 70% sheep’s milk and 30% goat’s milk. For that reason, it pays to check the label before buying to make sure the cheese contains what it actually has.

The cheese is stored in a brine, which essentially preserves it and greatly extends its shelf life. We have to wait at least 2 months before the cheese ripens.

During this time, the cheese absorbs the salt and acquires its typical taste and aroma. It is popular due to the content of probiotics, as well as protein, calcium and vitamin D.

The advantage of this type of cheese is its great versatility. It can be used in a summer salad, on pasta, for grilling with meat and vegetables, but it is also great for baking, au gratin, filling for omelets, pies and savory pies.

Originally an Italian natural ripening cheese, for the production of which pasteurized cow’s milk is used. This milk is wonderfully aromatic and comes from cows that graze freely on Asiago. This is a plateau in Italy.

The taste of the cheese is strongly spicy, and it also changes depending on how long the cheese is aged. The longer the maturation, the more pronounced the taste.

It is characterized by its yellowish color resembling straw, but also by small and medium-sized holes. The texture is firm but crumbly.

It is suitable for soups, salad, pasta and sauces where it is grated. When we cut it into slices, we can bake it in a panini or put it in a sandwich. It also tastes perfect melted.
