  • 2 red beets
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • ½ cup red lentils
  • 2 tablespoons tahini (sesame paste)
  • ½ teaspoon of salt
  • ½ teaspoon of ground cumin
  • ½ teaspoon ground paprika

Method:

  • Peel the beetroot, wash it and cut it into wedges.
  • Place it on a baking sheet lined with baking paper, brush with olive oil and bake for approx. 30 minutes at 190°C.
  • Meanwhile, cook the red lentils according to the instructions on the package.
  • Once both basic ingredients are ready and cooled, put everything in a blender and blend until smooth.

A mildly spicy red lentil and roasted carrot spread

Ingredients:

  • 4 medium carrots
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon curry
  • ½ cup red lentils
  • 2 cups of water
  • ¼ cup walnut pieces
  • ¼ cup fresh cilantro
  • 2 tablespoons of tahini
  • 2 teaspoons of lemon juice
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • ¾ teaspoon ground coriander
  • ¾ teaspoon of salt
  • ½ teaspoon of ground cumin
  • ⅛ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • pepper
  • herbs for sprinkling (for example, fresh parsley)

Method:

  • Peel the carrots, wash them, dry them and cut them into pieces about 4 cm long.
  • Place on a baking sheet lined with baking paper, brush with olive oil, sprinkle with salt, pepper and curry powder.
  • Bake at 200°C for 25-30 minutes until soft.
  • Turn the pan halfway through baking so that the carrots cook evenly.
  • In the meantime, rinse the lentils, put them in a pot, add 2 cups of water and cook for about 10-15 minutes.
  • Roast the walnuts in a pan. It takes about 5-7 minutes. Stir them occasionally so they don’t burn.
  • Put the finished lentils, carrots, and nuts in a blender.
  • Add olive oil, coriander, tahini, lemon juice, garlic, spices and mix until smooth.
  • You can add more salt or pepper to taste.

Lentil spread for children

You can serve this red lentil spread for children as a delicious snack, breakfast or even dinner with pieces of bread, crisps, chopped carrots or other vegetables.
