When is the best time to eat a banana?

Bananas are known for being full of nutrients – especially potassium, vitamin C, vitamin B6 and fiber.

The only thing that changes is that the starch turns into sugar – mainly fructose and glucose.

However, eating a greener banana may have modest health benefits. That’s because it contains just a little more starch called resistant starch, which humans can’t digest, but our gut bacteria love, which helps us digest better.

So if the nutritional values, they basically do not change during ripening.

Bananas turn yellow over time, and when the entire fruit is deep yellow (instead of pale yellow), it is ripe. At that point, the banana is soft and sweet – this stage is considered the tastiest.

Over time, brown spots will begin to appear on the peel. While some browning is fine and palatable, if the entire banana is brown , it is overripe. At that point, it’s probably best to use it in recipes (like banana fritters or banana bread).

If you let it sit any longer, it will turn black and you will have to throw it away.
