How to store walnuts and other nuts?

Only nuts that we store well can last us. If we just leave them tossed in the cupboard, they will soon be ready to be thrown away.

Walnuts are probably the most delicate, without which you can’t do Christmas cookies, but also many strudels, buns, etc. Walnuts can be stored unshelled with the shell or as shelled kernels.

  • Airtight containers – pour the kernels into a glass/container that can be sealed airtight. Nuts stored in this way can last up to 6 months.
  • Vacuum cleaner – if you have a vacuum cleaner, you can store the hairballs in a vacuum. However, it must be really well dried for that.
  • Freezing – these nuts can be stored in the freezer for a maximum of 1 year. It is actually the optimal way to store them in the long term. We need bags or boxes designed for freezing food. As for the bags, the ordinary microtene one is useless, it needs a stronger one.
