Sweet French Toast
Prepare an irresistible sweet weekend breakfast that is incredibly simple and quick to prepare. Your family will love it and never want another!
Ingredients
- 6 slices of white toasted bread (not completely fresh, it tends to soak up the ingredients too quickly, so it will be soggy on the inside)
- 2-3 tablespoons of butter
For the egg mixture:
- 2 large eggs
- ½ cup of milk
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
For macerated strawberries (optional):
- 250 g of strawberries, halved
- 1 tablespoon of sugar
To serve:
- maple syrup, butter
Method
- Whisk all the ingredients into the egg mixture in a bowl.
- Melt 1 tablespoon butter in a nonstick skillet over medium heat.
- Quickly dip a slice of toasted bread into the egg mixture and brush both sides.
- Put in the pan.
- Repeat with more slices to fill the pan, but don’t overcrowd it (do 2 or 3 at a time).
- Cook for 2 and ½ – 3 minutes on each side until golden, then transfer to serving plates.
- Add more butter to the pan and toast the remaining bread.
- Serve with butter and plenty of maple syrup and macerated strawberries if using!
- You prepare them by mixing strawberries with sugar and letting them stand for 20 minutes.
- The strawberries will soften and sweat to form a bit of syrup.
- Enjoy it!

Recipe for homemade white toast bread
Make your own homemade toast bread, which is much better than store-bought. It is beautifully soft and fluffy, just perfect!
Ingredients
- 14 g of dry yeast
- 808 ml of warm water
- 52 g granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon of salt
- 44 g of butter, cut into cubes, at room temperature
- 1200 g plain flour
- 44g butter, melted, for spreading
Method
- In the bowl of a stand mixer, mix the yeast in ¾ cup warm water to dissolve and let stand for 5 minutes.
- Add remaining 2 and ⅔ cups water, sugar, salt, room temperature butter, and 5 cups flour and mix.
- Using the mixer, mix on low speed and gradually add the remaining flour until the dough is soft and a little sticky, but not completely sticky (you may not need to use all the flour).
- Continue kneading until the dough forms a soft ball and cleans the sides of the bowl, about 7 to 10 minutes.
- Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl and turn to coat it all over.
- Cover with plastic wrap and leave in a warm, draft-free place to rise until doubled in size, about 45 minutes to 1 hour.
- Turn the dough out onto a clean, lightly floured surface.
- Press it down gently to remove any air pockets.
- Divide the dough into two parts.
- Working with one piece at a time, gently shape it into a 23 x 30 cm rectangle.
- Roll the rectangle, starting at the short end, into a very tight cylinder.
- Seal seams and ends and place in greased 23cm loaf tins.
- Cover loaves loosely and let rise in a draft-free place until doubled in size, 30 to 45 minutes.
- Place a rack in the bottom of the oven and preheat the oven to 200 degrees C.
- Brush the loaves with a little melted butter.
- Bake the loaves for 30 to 35 minutes (turning halfway through) until golden brown.
- Remove from oven and immediately brush with melted butter.
- Allow to cool for 10 minutes, then remove from pans and cool completely before slicing.
- Enjoy it!
