The simplest recipe that almost everyone knows. Use your favorite cheese and “heat” your toast to absolute perfection!

  • toast bread
  • ketchup / butter / mustard
  • cheese (niva, ermine, edam, gouda, goat cheese,…)

  1. Spread butter, ketchup or mustard on the toasted bread.
  2. Place the cheese of your choice on the toasts so that it doesn’t touch the edges too much (it might ooze out).
  3. Heat the toast using a toaster, a home grill or in the oven.
  4. Serve the toasts still hot immediately after baking.

Sweet French Toast

Prepare an irresistible sweet weekend breakfast that is incredibly simple and quick to prepare. Your family will love it and never want another!

  • 6 slices of white toasted bread (not completely fresh, it tends to soak up the ingredients too quickly, so it will be soggy on the inside)
  • 2-3 tablespoons of butter

For the egg mixture:

  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup of milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

For macerated strawberries (optional):

  • 250 g of strawberries, halved
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar

To serve:

  • maple syrup, butter

  1. Whisk all the ingredients into the egg mixture in a bowl.
  2. Melt 1 tablespoon butter in a nonstick skillet over medium heat.
  3. Quickly dip a slice of toasted bread into the egg mixture and brush both sides.
  4. Put in the pan.
  5. Repeat with more slices to fill the pan, but don’t overcrowd it (do 2 or 3 at a time).
  6. Cook for 2 and ½ – 3 minutes on each side until golden, then transfer to serving plates.
  7. Add more butter to the pan and toast the remaining bread.
  8. Serve with butter and plenty of maple syrup and macerated strawberries if using!
  9. You prepare them by mixing strawberries with sugar and letting them stand for 20 minutes.
  10. The strawberries will soften and sweat to form a bit of syrup.
  11. Enjoy it!

Recipe for homemade white toast bread

Make your own homemade toast bread, which is much better than store-bought. It is beautifully soft and fluffy, just perfect!

  • 14 g of dry yeast
  • 808 ml of warm water
  • 52 g granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of salt
  • 44 g of butter, cut into cubes, at room temperature
  • 1200 g plain flour
  • 44g butter, melted, for spreading

  1. In the bowl of a stand mixer, mix the yeast in ¾ cup warm water to dissolve and let stand for 5 minutes.
  2. Add remaining 2 and ⅔ cups water, sugar, salt, room temperature butter, and 5 cups flour and mix.
  3. Using the mixer, mix on low speed and gradually add the remaining flour until the dough is soft and a little sticky, but not completely sticky (you may not need to use all the flour).
  4. Continue kneading until the dough forms a soft ball and cleans the sides of the bowl, about 7 to 10 minutes.
  5. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl and turn to coat it all over.
  6. Cover with plastic wrap and leave in a warm, draft-free place to rise until doubled in size, about 45 minutes to 1 hour.
  7. Turn the dough out onto a clean, lightly floured surface.
  8. Press it down gently to remove any air pockets.
  9. Divide the dough into two parts.
  10. Working with one piece at a time, gently shape it into a 23 x 30 cm rectangle.
  11. Roll the rectangle, starting at the short end, into a very tight cylinder.
  12. Seal seams and ends and place in greased 23cm loaf tins.
  13. Cover loaves loosely and let rise in a draft-free place until doubled in size, 30 to 45 minutes.
  14. Place a rack in the bottom of the oven and preheat the oven to 200 degrees C.
  15. Brush the loaves with a little melted butter.
  16. Bake the loaves for 30 to 35 minutes (turning halfway through) until golden brown.
  17. Remove from oven and immediately brush with melted butter.
  18. Allow to cool for 10 minutes, then remove from pans and cool completely before slicing.
  19. Enjoy it!
