How to shape a baguette correctly?
If you want your homemade baguette to be not only tasty, but also beautiful to look at, you need to learn the right technique for shaping them. There is nothing difficult about it.
Divide the dough on the roll into as many parts as you want to make baguettes. Then shape each part into a rectangle using a rolling pin or your hands. Remember that the width of this rectangle should always be the same, 20 centimeters. Choose the length of the rectangle arbitrarily, depending on how long you want to make a baguette.
Then just fold the bottom third of the rectangle into two thirds of the dough. Subsequently, the upper third is folded over and the dough folded in this way is finally folded in half. Then a groove is made in the middle of the dough, the dough is folded again and rolled slightly so that you reach the desired length of the baguette.
What to sprinkle homemade baguettes with?
The basic recipe leaves the baguettes bare, without sprinkles. However, it is no problem to sprinkle the dough at the end after cutting with a knife. The most common options include salt, cumin, sunflower, pumpkin, flax or sesame seeds, as well as poppy seeds, or pieces of garlic, onions or herbs. With suitable ingredients, we can easily add many minerals, vitamins and other health-promoting substances to our diet.
How to make the baguettes crispy?
If you like fresh crusty bread, use a little trick. All you have to do is place a small saucepan with water in the oven while baking, or brush the baguette with water at least lightly before putting it in the oven.
How to properly store homemade baguettes so they don’t harden?
If you want to enjoy your homemade baguettes for a longer period of time and if you don’t plan to eat them all immediately after baking, it is important to know how to store them properly. Forget about plastic bags, a fridge or a freezer.
The most suitable way is to wrap the pastry in a clean cloth after it has cooled down and put it in the dark. If you don’t have a bread box at home, just put the packaged bread in the pantry, for example. By the way, today you can also buy special cotton bags for pastries, so you don’t have to use a classic tea towel.
