Can we consume raw zucchini?

In short, the varieties of zucchini we buy in stores should be safe to eat raw.

They are delicious, incredibly healthy and can be modified in many ways.

However, if you bite into an extremely bitter zucchini, it’s best to throw it away. It is a sign of high concentrations of so-called cucurbitacins, which can be harmful to health.

Although it is highly unlikely that you will buy extremely bitter zucchini at the supermarket, if you do not like the taste of zucchini and find it bitter, it is better to be wrong than to give yourself food poisoning and throw it away.

But most produce bought at supermarkets or farms is safe and healthy to eat raw or cooked.

Make sure you wash the zucchini thoroughly before eating it to avoid the risk of bacterial contamination. Also, make sure you store it properly in the refrigerator for later use.
